New Playground Ready for Action

Students at Iluka Public School are excited about the opening of their new playground equipment. A combination of P&C committee initiative, hard work and vision have created an inviting, stimulating and challenging play area for all students (and staff!). The play equipment was transferred from its previous home at the Big Prawn petrol station in Ballina approximately 12 months ago. After a thorough clean and safety check, a suitable space was then needed for the massive structure to be erected permanently. Following the removal of several demountable buildings late last year, the vision for the school's play area swung into action.

The cubbyhouse and sand pit have also been moved near the new equipment to create an adventure and pretend play hub for the students. The importance and availability of play and physical activity in young children's development within a school setting is highly visible in the new play area. Students have been involved with the play area's transformation with many volunteering to spread soft fall around the equipment during their lunch hour. They have also collaborated with staff to formulate safety guidelines for all who use the new play equipment.

The result of many contributors' hard work (especially school groundsman Mark), the new play equipment and play area has created an inviting space for children to be active during their lunchtimes. Staff and students would like to thank all those families who attended the working bee on Saturday, finalising the play area and giving the school grounds a general tidy up. We are extremely proud of our school environment and the relationships we create within it.
